While 50 mm penetration is insufficient to completely penetrate many body parts, it is sufficient to access most of the distal limb structures that are commonly injured by athletes (Garrett, 1996), and applying light from multiple sides of the structure would increase photon delivery for larger structures. Mathematical models were provided that will give practitioners and researchers the capacity to estimate red light penetration for lean structures of interest.
