A number of existing vision-assistive devices or techniques operate by breaking binocular redundancy, though usually in the spatial rather than spectral domain. Examples include hemianopia (partial blindness in the left or right visual field) treatment using spectacles with a monocular sector prism that selectively relocates the visual field in one eye, leaving the other eye unaffected, and thus conferring an additional 20 of visual-field sensitivity for binocular vision13,14, and the treatment of presbyopia by correcting one eye for near vision and the other for distance vision15.
