Summer activities Hiking The Gornergrat Bahn provides access to a fantastic hiking area around the Gornergrat. The natural paradise offers hikes to suit everybody. Hiking suggestions 1. Riffelseeweg: Rotenboden – Riffelsee – Riffelberg Length 2.9 kilometre Difference in altitude 233 metre Hike down approx. 1 hour Hike up approx. 1 hour 15 minutes Open: July – October Attraction: The Matterhorn is reflected in the Riffelsee lakes View of 29 four-tousand-metre peaks including the Matterhorn 2. Mark Twain Weg: Riffelberg – Riffelalp Length 2.5 kilometre Difference in altitude 366 metre Hike down 50 minutes Hike up 1 hour 10 minutes Open: July – October Hike with spectacular views following on Mark Twain’s footsteps in his famous book: “Climbing the Riffelberg” Audio climate trail to the Monte Rosa hut The Gornergrat Bahn and myclimate present the Audio Climate Trail. The audio tour leads from Zermatt to Rotenboden (2815 m a.s.l.) and to the Monte Rosa hut (2883 m a.s.l.). During the approx. three-hour hike, nine five-minute talks on climate history take you into another time, another climate, another geo- graphy. We recommend a certified mountain guide for hikes on the Gorner glacier. The audio guides (G, E, F) can be hired at Zermatt Tourism, the Alpin Center Zermatt or the Gornergrat Bahn (deposit required). More info at www.klimahoerpfad.ch. The audio guide is also recommended for a Gornergrat excur- sion. You can listen to the content during the trip, on the view- ing platform or at a quiet spot along the tour. Biking In the midst of 29 four-thousand-metre peaks there are four marked bike routes at your disposal. Enjoy travelling on board the highest outdoor cogwheel railway in Europe up the Gornergrat (3089 m). Riders have to load their bikes themselves on board of the train. One-day bike travel pass Unlimited train rides between Zermatt and Gornergrat incl. bicycle transport.
