summary PageRank—with its elegant simplicity and enthralling complexity—cap- tured the hearts and minds of scientists and researchers over the past decade. They have formalized, quantified, extended, reinterpreted, and improved many aspects of the PageRank problem and algorithms. With this thesis, we join this global enterprise with our contributions: (i) some new understand- ing of the PageRank derivative; (ii) a new generalization of PageRank; and (iii) a faster PageRank algorithm. Research is never perfect and the discussion in this chapter (section 7.1) addresses some aspects of these contributions that are not ideal. But the excitement of research is all the work that is yet come. Now this is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end. But it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning.
