FIRST WE EAT 6 Location Tag Your Posts Now’s the point in the handout where I throw a crazy statistic at you. Instagram posts with a location tag have 79% more engagement than those without one. SEVENTY NINE PERCENT!!!! Dudes, that’s insanity!!! Okay so there’s a few reasons for this: tagging your location helps in- stagram know where you are located and helps make your posts more visible to those in your geographic area. Don’t tag your actual home address, obviously (stranger danger!), but tagging the general city you live in (I tag mine Portland, Oregon) helps a ton. If you have a business, tagging the location of the storefront helps, too. Additionally, when you’re not at your physical home and are eating at a restaurant or traveling, tagging the location of the place you’re eating or the museum you’re at will now attach your instagram photo to that geo-location on instagram, so whoever looks at that geo-location tag will see your photo there, too, which is a great way for potential followers to discover you down the line. I also secretly believe that the algorithm straight-up shows location tagged images to a greater number of your followers because insta- gram wants you to share that information.
