Simple optimization tips (YouTube Playbook) Metadata optimization YouTube is the world’s second largest search engine and it uses metadata (your video’s title, tags and description) to index your video correctly. Title: The first 3 words are most important. In the title, put keywords first and branding at the end. For serial content, add the episode number to the end of the title. Description: Only the first few sentences of your description will appear in search results or above the fold on a watch page. Tags: Create a set of standard tags for your channel that can be applied to any video you publish (e.g. filmmaking, animation, comedy, "Funny Videos," "Pet Videos," etc). List them in order of relevance and try to use the whole 120 character limit. This is ongoing. You should continually go back to optimise YouTube titles and descriptions to keep them relevant and remove videos with low watch times. Visual optimization Thumbnails: Should accurately represent the content in the video. Should include a face/eyes wherever possible. The left hand side of a video/thumbnail is most likely to drive clicks. Green is the most ‘clickable’ color for text. Should be bright, with high contrast between foreground and background. Could use Canva or PicMonkey for design. Branding: Use visual cues (colors, shapes, images, personalities) should be consistent across all videos, and should differ for separate shows.PDF Image | The YouTube Algorithm Introductory tips
