The binding of the ligand adenylate cyclase (AC) to its receptor-β-adrenergic receptor (β-AR) via protein G (Gs) elevates the levels of cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) which in turn activates protein kinase (PKA). PKA phosphorylates hormone sensitive lipase (HSL) that in turn causes degradation of triglycerides (TG) and diglycerides (DG) to monoglycerides (MG).
