Pharmaceutics 2020, 12, 1102 9 of 17 naïve PEG2k (0.1–2.0 mg to 10 mg UCNPs@SiO2) showed a clearly improved dispersibility of the relevant UCNPs@SiO2: UCNPs@SiO2 precipitated in aqueous media at a PEG2k amount of 0.1–0.2 mg, whereas UCNPs@SiO2 was very stable and dispersible at a PEG2k amount of 1–2 mg despite the presence of hydrophobic folic acid and TCPP. This is a clear pharmaceutical advantage of UCNPs@SiO2@FA/PEG/TCPP as a photodynamic agent that should be injected intravenously.
