In the old stone building, the former exposed cisterns were replaced by elegant Monolith sanitary modules. ↓ The Geberit CleanLine shower channel blends harmoniously into the shower area, which features large natural stone slabs. The sophisticated lighting concept also incorporates the glass shower partition wall. rooms were renovated from top to bottom and a spacious ski room was added. “In five-star hotels, the guest rooms have to be updated every 10 to 15 years,” explains Hans-Jörg Walther. “Strictly speaking, the bathrooms should last longer before this is necessary. But because we were unhappy with how they were fitted out, we opted to renovate them completely at the same time.” Tricky logistics “The entire renovation project, which cost well over 15 million Swiss francs, had to be completed in just seven months,” says Ro- man Mooser, the founder and co-owner of the Zermatt-based architecture firm Moos- er Lauber Stucky. “The transport logistics and moving the materials on the building site itself posed major issues. The materi- als were transported to the building site via helicopter or the mountain railway. On the building site, we also had a crane and vari- ous special-purpose vehicles,” he adds. As the Zermatt-based architects were already responsible for the building project 19 years ago, they knew exactly what they were dealing with and were able to ensure that everything ran smoothly despite these difficulties. ← The largest section of the Riffelalp Resort is designed as a chalet hotel. The completely renovated stone building on the left of the picture dates from the 19th century. Shower toilets in all WCs In addition to the construction of a spa- cious underground ski room with all mod cons, the complete renovation of all the bathrooms was a key aspect of the project. Alone the natural stone slabs of up to one square metre in size that were used to clad the walls and the floors of the bathrooms pushed the transport firms and construc- tion specialists to the limit for weeks on end. Transporting the well over 60 Geberit AquaClean Sela shower toilets was a walk in the park in comparison, especially since the Zermatt-based plumbing contractor Richard Gruber arranged for them to be transported to Riffelalp by helicopter. 20 CustomerMagazine June2017
