Please read this document carefully in order to be properly prepared for the Igloo-Village experience. Zermatt is located at the foot of Switzerland’s famous landmark, the Matterhorn, in the Pennine Alps in southern Switzerland at an altitude of 1’600 m. Starting in the car-free town – where electromobiles are the sole means of transport – you take the Gornergrat railway in the direction of the highest Igloo Village of them all at 2’700m above sea level. Wild mountain romance and pure joy of iglooing in the midst of the most magnificent Al- pine panorama! Program Information for overnight guests IGLOO-VILLAGE ZERMATT till 4.24 p.m. till 5.15 p.m. 6.00 p.m. 7.00/8.00 a.m. Journey up the mountain with the Gornergrat railway. Get out at Riffelberg station (NOT Riffelalp). Arrive ON TIME at the meeting point in the HOTEL Riffelhaus (NOT Restaurant Riffelberg) for the welcome/instructions by our guides. Thereafter common drive with Gornergrat Railway to Rotenboden. Short hike to the Igloo-Village (around 15 minutes’ walk, partly steeper path). Meeting point and arrival time are mandatory. Please don’t go to the Igloo Village by yourself. Arrival at the Igloo-Village and settle in to the igloo rooms. Then activities in and around the igloo with aperitif, evening meal (around 7:00 p.m.), snow-shoe trek, pool and a cosy get-together. Wake-up tea served to you in your sleeping bag, then a hike to the Hotel Riffelberg (around 15 minutes walk). Breakfast in the mountain restaurant and individual departure. Equipment The Igloo-Village nestles in the heart of nature on the mountain. Make sure you are properly equipped. Normally the temperatures in the Igloo-Village remain constant at around 0°C. Clothing and equipment: • Winter-proof, warm clothing • (such as for skiing, see picture above) Comfortable, warm winter shoes • (e.g. snowboard shoes or moonboots) • Good gloves Dry socks, long underwear to change • into, also pyjamas Two hats (second spare hat in case first hat gets wet) • Towel, swimwear and flip flops for the • whirlpool if required • A torch or head torch • Toothbrush & toothpaste • Cash • Sunglasses and sun cream (Ski-) Goggles (against wind) A backpack is the ideal item of luggage for the overnight stay in the Igloo-Village. During your journey Please plan enough extra time to ensure you arrive at the meeting point specified in the pro- gramme on time and unhurriedly. Please note that the journey with the Gornergrat Bahn takes about 30 minutes. The mountain railways are not responsible for transporting your luggage. If you are late, please let us know immediately on +41 41 612 27 28. Please have the mobile telephone you specified on reservation with you so that we can contact you if need be (especially during your outward journey). Luggage deposit We recommend that you do not take more luggage to the mountain than mentioned in the “Equipment” column, as you have to carry your own luggage to the igloo and it has only very limited capacity and no locker in the igloo village. Luggage not required for the night in the igloo can be deposited in a locker at the train station in Zermatt for a fee. At the meeting point in the Hotel Riffelhaus there is no possibility to store luggage. Ski / snowboard can be parked in front of the igloo village. There is a warm room for the boots. Please do NOT bring the following: • An expedition sleeping bag and a sleeping bag liner will be provided to • you any kind of Suitcase (unsuitable) Hint: Arrive a little bit earlier to enjoy the nature and the nice views in daylight
