through her videos. What the above explanations serve to illustrate is that the notion of character is present in the actual design of a vlogger’s YouTube channel as well. While it is worthwhile to examine how character comes forth through the words of the haulers, it is also important to investigate how haulers are regarded by their viewers. It appears that some viewers are perceptive to the notion of character, as evidenced by some of their remarks. Earlier in this chapter, I mention EGheartsSSC’s haul video in which she shares a cobalt blue sweater she bought from Forever 21. When showing her purchase, she notes it is a size large, and tells her viewers they should embrace their size whether they are a small or double XL. “Whatever, who cares, who cares what size you are. Embrace it!” She talks about how she does not like when other gurus disclose that they normally wear an XXS, but had to buy an XS because the store was sold out. She thinks this is annoying, and while talking about it, she gives her viewers an impression of other gurus talking about how they wear a small size. This segment of her video generates a great deal of feedback (shown below) and is illustrative of the vlogger receiving positive character reviews: I love you!
