Flight into Miami

I flew into the new Northwest terminal into Detroit which was just huge. Brand new, and very well done. Transferred planes and arrived in a nice hot Miami at 12:30 p.m.. Cab from the airport to my hotel Riande Continental on Biscayne Bay at the Bayside area was about $18.00 While the Riande is pretty old, and shows signs of age, my room had a 16th floor view of the Biscayne Bay, the Bayside Center and the cruise ship terminals which was beautiful at night.

Sunset on South Beach

After a nice Cuban lunch at Bayside, I met my friend Monica (Real Estate Agent and once Casino Manager for Carnival Cruises) and we headed towards South Beach which is about 15 minutes away in heavy traffic. Taking the causeway out to South Beach, we drove to a really posh restaurant/bar on the end of South Beach, at the entrance to the ship channel.

Smith & Wollensky's on the channel

On the Cruise Ship Channel

For the past few years, I've been coming to Smith & Wollensky's on the channel. The food is tremendously expensive, and the drinks usually are made quite strong. The view is incredible. While we were there (on a Saturday), three large cruise ships headed out just as the Sun was setting. Watching these behemoths come down the channel is a sight to behold.
