Arrival At Moorea We entered the channel and anchored in the middle of Cook's Bay in Moorea around noon. It was a bit overcast, but the green covered mountains that surround the bay were just beautiful. The sheer contrast of Moorea make it one of the most beautiful islands in the world.

Helicopter Flight Over Moorea I was a bit concerned about the lighting for taking photographs, but in the end it was not a big problem. The flight lasted about 20 minutes and covered about one third of the island, from the coast to the interior. There were rain clouds over the largest of the peaks, which beaded up the Plexiglas in helicopter at times. The best seat in the chopper are front left and back left. Best place for photographs is the back seat, left side. With any kind of sunlight, the reflections make shooting https://cruisingreview.com/cruise-reviews/photos quite difficult. The helicopter flights are spectacular, and you should make it a part of your visit to French Polynesia. Just seeing the colors of the lagoons around the island make it worth it. On Moorea, flying over the tropical ridges and mountaintops give you some great sightseeing.

Internet Cafe On the way back I stopped at Maria Tapas Internet Cafe, which is only a few minutes walking distance from the tender pier. Internet rates are about 250 CFP per 15 minutes, or about $10 U.S. per hour. They have three computers, and the one on the far right is the only English keyboard. French style keyboards have characters in nonstandard places and are a waste of time to use. The connection speed is not the fastest, but at least it's reliable.

Afternoon Poolside Because it's summer, you'll get slightly overcast days here. In Bora Bora, it was raining all last weekend, but when I was there, it was only periodic showers which took off the edge from the heat and strong Sun. While the clouds provide a break from the heat, the UV rays continue, so don't think you can't get sunburn when it's cloudy. Days like this are nice, since everyone is ashore, you get the entire ship to yourself. What better setting for writing, surrounded by lush tropical peaks, looking at the breakers coming over the reef protecting the bay, and watching the palms sway slowly in the gentle breeze.

Sunset As per tradition, I was up at La Palette to listen to the wonderful piano playing of Hal Fraser, and for a sunset cocktail. The overcast masked any attempt at a sunset which was followed by some light drizzle. Dinner was at La Etoile , the main dining room since the Pacific Grill was closed.

Show I met up with Greg, Mary Ann, Dean and Rebecca after dinner and we went to see the singer and magician before heading to the Connoisseurs Club on Deck 7 for some Cuban cigars and cognac.
