At Dock in Havensight - St. Thomas

Customs Form

We pulled into the dock at Havensight (the major cruise ship pier) around 5:30-6:00 a.m. All the passengers had to rise and present their passports and U.S. Customs form in person at 6:45 a.m. in the Main Salon to customs agents. I showed them my form, and my declaration (with some major purchases from St. Barts) and they waived me on (only wanting customs forms and passports).

Morning Aboard Ship

Customs Back

Breakfast is served early aboard ship to accommodate the early passenger departures. The staff requests that all passengers be off the ship by 10:00 a.m. the the Captain and some of the crew is there to see you off as you leave the ship. It is a very relaxed departure, unlike most larger cruise ships where you are shuffled off the ship as soon as possible.

Taxi to Airport

Customs Front

The ships staff is busy in cleaning mode for the next cruise, and loading on the many pallets of drinks, food and supplies. Within a minute of departing the ship dockside we were greeted by a taxi for the ride to the airport.

St. Thomas Airport

Cruise Book - Complimentary Book Mailed

We waited over an hour for the ticketing station at United Airlines to open to get our tickets, then went through U.S. Customs (where we again had to fill out a declaration form). Even though I claimed all my purchases (totaling over $10,000) the customs agent waived us through. We then spent a short time waiting to board UA Flight 1063.

United Airlines Flight 1063 to San Juan

Daily Program - Departure

We departed St. Thomas on time for the short flight to San Juan (about 19 minutes). The United Airlines Airbus 320 (one of my favorite aircraft) has 2x2 First Class seating, and 3x3 Economy Class seating. The First Class had only three rows, and the seats were the most comfortable I've had on any airline so far.

United Airlines Flight 1063 to Chicago

After a brief stop in San Juan to pickup some passengers, we departed for Chicago. The flight was overbooked by 6 passengers and they were offering free tickets to be bumped, with no takers. Even though they said in St. Thomas that there would be no food served, we got a nice lunch in First Class. We also got periodic hot towels and even freshly baked chocolate chip cookies. The flight from Chicago to Madison was on time and uneventful.
