Enroute to Venice	Grand Canal
The route from Dubrovnik to Venice had us at port (dockside) around noon. It was nice for a change to be at sea for at least part of the day.

Tender to Venice	Gondola Ride
After a 15 minute water taxi to the Plaza of San Marcos (St. Marks Square), I toured the square and then took a Gondola ride. The ride normally was E 120 but I bargained him down to E80 for 45 minutes.

St. Marks Square is the hub of Venice, and is a good starting place when exploring the city.

Shopping for Glass	Glass Art
Being a big fan of glass, I stopped by numerous shops and finally found some art at the Palensa shop, right on Plaza San Marcos. The art they carry is one-of-a-kind and signed by the glass artisan.

Impressions of Venice	Canals
Venice is just beautiful. Try and do a post cruise stay there and get to know the city better. You will need at least two full days to see the majority of the city. I highly recommend a tour of the Murano Glass Factory as well.

Gondola Ride	Gondola For Hire
E$120 to $80 for 45 minutes. I asked how the city handled the sewage disposal, and the gondolier told me that 80% went into a holding tank and 20% raw sewage into canal. Oddly enough the canals did not smell, due to the natural tide and flushing action of the sea.

Dinner at La Verandah	Sunset
With a buffet of appetizers and a entree'' of beef medallions, serenaded by a troupe of Italian musicians, the dinner was the highlight of the cruise.

Venice Travel Notes
Do a post stay in Venice. There's just too much to see in one afternoon. Lines are long, people are in masses, especially in Plaza San Marcos. Use rechargeable Nickel Metal Hydride batteries for your digital camera. This trip I decided to try alkaline batteries and they did not last as long, and are E$5.00 for a package of two. I ended up buying batteries on the ship and in Venice.

Tender to San Marcos Square	Transfer Ticket
Get your tender ticket early so that you can tour San Marcos Square. The tender ride is about 15 minutes, and returns on the hour back to the ship until late evening.
