Interlaken Merkur Hotel Interlaken is the gateway to the Lauterbrunnen Valley in Switzerland, and between Lake Thun and Brienz. It is picturesque with the high alps of the Eiger peeking out from the valley to the south. It has lovely walks along the fast-moving current of the waterway between the lakes.Unfortunately, we paid more than $340 per night to stay at this hotel located near the Interlaken Ost train station. The staff is really nice and helpful, the rooms were clean, but the overall quality and condition of the hotel is really lacking. It was the worst part of our entire three week trip. The rooms are minimalistic with awful and uncomfortable beds. There is no AC. My bathroom had drain issues, and made lots of noises. At night, you will be kept awake from partygoers using the train station (until 4 am).If that isn't enough, you may be lucky to hear the constant smartphone notifications pinging every few seconds from the guest next door. The only positive of the stay was the breakfast with a wonderful top-floor view of the village and mountains.Don't waste your money here, go somewhere else.We only stayed one night and left for Davos at the Ameron Hotel which was 30 percent less expensive, a newer property, with wonderful rooms and lots of reasons to never to stay at the Merkur again. If you're going to charge $340 a night, you need to at least have some quality for the stay, which Merkur does not.
