Sardinia to Zurich Airport and then Train to Davos Dorf and then a stay at the Ameron Hotel

For the next segment of the trip, we went again to Davos to stay at our favorite hotel, the Ameron.

On Expedia the prices ranged from $190-225 depending on occupants of the room (single or double).

The Ameron is a short taxi drive (16 Euro from Luigi Taxi) or a 14 minute walk from Davos Dorf.

The hotel has excellent food options and great quality of food for all meals - breakfast buffet, lunch, and dinner. Our favorite was the Pinza (rectangular pizza) made fresh, to order, in the kitchen pizza oven by a great chef. The dough is raised 24-48 hours prior and the taste is wonderful.

The rooms are cozy and efficiently layed out. There is a really nice porch with two chairs that take relaxing to the next level on the cool Davos evenings.

Each room has a coffee machine, empty refrigerator, and plenty of electrical outlets and space.

It's clear that somebody put lots of thought into this hotel in its design, layout, function, and appearance.

For the price and comfort, it's my pick for the best affordable hotel in Switzerland. Breakfast is included.

Popular with skiers in the winter, Davos offers plenty of outdoor activity in the summer including walking, hiking, sailing, watersports, and exploring. With great SBB Swiss train service in both Davos Dorf and Platz, you are only 15 minutes away from Klosters and about two hours away from St. Moritz. The train rides in and out of the area are spectacular.

The front desk staff, the housekeeping, and especially the friendly waiters make you feel welcome and at home at this wonderful hotel.

We were going to stay one night, then extended another and finally just stayed there the entire week since we realize that a good affordable and high quality hotel is hard to find in Switzerland.

There is a Migros food and general store a few minutes walk (typically open until 8pm on weekdays and 6 pm or earlier on Sunday). There is a large Coop about a 20 minute walk over at Davos Platz, and numerous Coop-to-go and Migros Pronto every few blocks.

I recommend renting a electric bike to fully explore the area.

My only disappointment with Davos is the constant stream of cars (not electric) which not only provide noise pollution, but also ruining the fresh mountain air.

At the hotel, try to get a room facing opposite the main road in front of the hotel, if you like sitting on your balcony to enjoy the evening.

The hotel lounge has a bar, can be used for eating snacks (or lunch) and has two wonderful rocking chairs. There is a simulated fireplace which also adds to the ambiance of the lounge and entry way.

This is a wonderful hotel. I wish other hotels would use this hotel as an example how hoteliers that do it right.

Well done Ameron.
