Sorrento

This will be the second time that I've visited the quaint cliffside village of Sorrento. We dropped anchor late morning and tender service was available to shore. Located in Campania, it is across the bay from Naples and Pompeii, and located at the south-eastern end of the Circumvesuviana rail line. In the distance next to Naples, Mt. Vesuvius can be seen and at the other side in the distance you can see the island of Capri. Hydrofoil and ferry service can connect you to Naples, Amalfi, Positano, Capri and Ischia. Sorrento is known for the production of limoncello, an alcoholic digestif made from lemon rinds, alcohol, water and sugar.

Voyager in Sorrento

Sorrento is an excellent jump-off point for many area sites, including Capri, seaside villages like Positano, and the many tourist venues around Naples.

High speed ferry to Capri. Times vary - be sure to check the posted times. Timetables may not be accurate in brochures.

Much to my surprise, there is a cable car which takes you to the top of Capri - Monte Solaro. I'm a big fan of aerial cableways.

Not to be confused with the funicular of Capri that links the port of Marina Grande to Capri centre.

You have to take a taxi or tourbus to get to the start point, which is about 10 minutes from the port.

The chairlift takes about 12-15 minutes to get to the top at Monte Solaro.

The start point is at Piazza Vittoria in Anacapri.

At the summit of Monte Solaro, you can see Calabrian mountains, the Gulf of Naples, the Amalfi Coast, and the islands of Ischia and Procida.

You can also see the Blue Grotto.

Colorful street vendors at the port in Capri. It was very busy in May.

The beautiful harbor in Capri.

That evening, invites were sent out to Seven Seas Society Members for a social event onshore.

Located at the palacial Parco Principi, the event included free cocktails, hors d'oeuvres and Italian singing.

It was a perfect sunset during the event.

The 5-star Parco dei Principi hosted the event, sponsored by Regent.

Parco Principi overlooks the Voyager, as well as Naples and Capri.

Passengers for the event were tendered ashore, then boarded several buses to the hotel.

Cocktails were followed by a concert of three tenors and a quartet of instruments. It was all quite charming and very Italian.

Later that night aboard the ship, they had an art auction.

Voyager at Sunset

The sunset was the perfect ending to the day which included a cablecar to the top of Capri, and the cocktail party at the Parco Principi in Sorrento. This is a photo of the sunset with Regent Voyager as the day closes to an end.
