Zermatt and the Matterhorn

Since we'd only have one full day in Zermatt, we got the peak pass for two days (just in case the day was cloudy). It would be a full day including three peaks, about 10 cablecars and multiple cogwheels and two funiculars.

The Zermatt area has beautiful mountain peaks, lots of cablecars, and plenty of trails to hike.

Always start your day touring with a big breakfast.	The breakfast buffet at the Riffelalp is the best I've had around the world.	Every morning there are fresh squeezed juices.	You can even order crepes, eggs, waffles and omelets a la minute.

An example of mountain transportation passes.	If you're planning on riding more than a few cablecars, get a mountain pass.	The same as what skiers get in the winter, the summer version gives you access to all mountain transportation via a RFID.	Our day started off down to the village of Zermatt in a cloud.

Village of Zermatt.	Zermatt. All electric vehicles. Very clean air.	Cablecar lift to Klein Matterhorn.	One of the larger cablecar lifts to the peak of the Klein Matterhorn.

Matterhorn. Snow capped in late September.	Pepe on top of Klein Matterhorn. 12,736 ft in altitude. It was really cold up here - but I had on layers and my new REI eVent raincoat which worked perfectly.	Taking the cablecar back down. You'll be sharing with olympic skiers and others in training. It was a busy day touring - in all 3 peaks and most of the cablecars that Zermatt has to offer. The views from the peaks are spectacular. I highly recommend wearing layers of clothes. Bring a warm hat and gloves (keep them in your daypack).
