Zermatt Matterhorn Riffelalp Resort Suite 204
The Riffelalp Resort
Located high above Zermatt on the Gornergrat, the Riffelalp resort is the best in Europe. With amazing views, this is the ultimate Swiss resort experience. While the staff is attentive to your needs, the modern but traditional Swiss suites make your Swiss experience complete. Add some fondue or Raclettes from Al Bosco, and you'll never want to leave. With the best view of the Matterhorn, each sunset is an experience in itself. The colors and hues of the last rays of the sun dance upon the alps. If you're lucky with a summer storm, the clouds mingle with the peaks to create a more magical display. This experience which has been created by the Riffelalp, is not a once-in-a-lifetime visit, but a yearly pilgrimage to days full of relaxation, fresh alpine air, and wonderful memories.
Enroute to Zermatt
The best way to get to Zermatt is by Swiss train (SBB). With a Half-Fare card, you can be in Zermatt in just over three hours from the Zurich (ZRH) airport train station, located at the lower level of The Circle at the airport. If you can book the day before, you may be able to get a SuperSaver fare, for half price (without using the Half-Fare card which is around 150 CHF per person). There may be other discounts available. There is the possibility to have as few stops as possible (transferring trains). Typically, you'll take the IC (intercity) train from Zermatt airport, change trains in Bern, and then in Visp, before the magical train ride slowly gaining altitude from Visp to Zermatt. If you're lucky on the way back, you may have the opportunity to only change trains once at Visp and getting on the IC8 directly to Zurich airport.Zermatt is a car-free village, so if you drive, you'll need to park at Tasch and ride the train for 10 minutes up to Zermatt. While 1st Class is more expensive, the experience is much better. The train from Visp to Zermatt is designed with panoramic windows to gaze upon the splendor of the Swiss alps.
Gornergrat Rail to Riffelalp Station and then to the resort
Arriving at Zermatt train station, you'll be greeted by Tony, the porter for the resort. He'll take your luggage and put it on the Gornergrat cogwheel train up to the Riffelalp stop. He'll also give you tickets for the Gornergrat Bahn (train) ride. The Gornergrat Bahn service is about 20 minutes every hour and less frequently at night.Once at the Riffelalp station, another porter will take your luggage and put it on the Riffelalp train for a short 5 minute ride to the resort. This mini electric train is a fun experience in itself.
