The Burgenstock Resort above Lake Lucerne, Switzerland remains my favorite desination in the world. This near holiday visit brought out the snowy outdoors and the wintry beauty in the region.While the Felsenweg hiking trail was closed due to ice and snow (it is closed in the winter), other trails were open displaying the incredible winter wonderland.

I've stayed at the Burgenstock and the Palace Hotel (same property and attached via a common tunnel and building connecting the two.The Burgenstock is wonderful. And expensive. They've increased their prices more than 40 percent since the pandemic. While even the lowest category suite is incredibly luxurious, it's no longer a value for the price of admission. They include a bottle of wine or champagne, and also a spa credit. The spa credit is great, but if you don't use it, it's a waste. Plus a typical spa treatment is greater than the credit, which is just click bait. A better value if the Palace Hotel. Buy features you want, instead of having them force fed.As I travel the world more often and stay at these luxury resorts, I'm becoming more sensitive to huge added fees that just take your money. I guess if I was rich and didn't care what I spend, it wouldn't be a big deal. But during the pandemic, my businesses have been destroyed, so I have to seek out value for my hard earned spending.

The Palace Hotel suite is perfect. Typically you have a lake view or a mountain and valley view. Both are fantastic. I almost prefer the valley view, since you hear the melodic bells from the many cows.The suite is modern, which all the accouterments that the Burgenstock has, with a little less luxury. Functional and comfortable.Breakfast is included, but the spa is not, unless you get one of the more pricey suites.
