Eden Roc Ascona Switzerland on Lake Maggiore

The Eden Roc is a wonderful location in Switzerland on the Italian Lake Maggiore.

The staff, decor, accurtriments, food, and location are outstanding. The artwork in the hotel is incredible.

We originally had a 600 CHF per night (lowest available price) room in the Marina section with a horrible floor level view of the parking lot. I inquired about a upgrade and was offered a 300 CHF per night add-on for a beautiful lake view.

The view is stunning.

The only issue was that the room had a really bad odor when we checked in. We opened all the doors and windows to help alleviate, but didn't help much.

After a wonderful dinner (Michelin Star Restaurant), we returned to our suite which had turn-down service and noticed that they had used some kind of perfume to help change the smell.

The evening sleep was poor, for this type of hotel. I looked at the mattress and it was some kind of custom Swiss made mattress, which was just awful.

I reported the issues the next morning to the front desk as we checked out.

The property itself is very dated, and most likely was some other hotel or an apartment building from the 1970's (or earlier), which was redone by Eden Roc. While the room was beautiful, it certainly was not a 1,000 CHF per night stay. More like a 200 CHF per night value. Of course the view was amazing, but the horrible Swiss made mattress really detracted from the stay.

I had the staff arrange a helicopter charter for the next day, which they did quickly and efficiently via Swiss Helicopters. As a side note, the taxi ride from the hotel to Lugano airfield (about 15 minutes) was 66 CHF (very pricey).

The helicopter charter with two pilots from Ascona Locarno to Lucerne was about 3,400 CHF and took about 40 minutes with an amazing view of the Swiss alps.
