Tours on St. Maarten

Through the ship, you can schedule tours on the island. The alternative, is to get to town early, and find the vendor of the tour, and usually pay $10-40 less than what you paid on the ship. Many people just opt to get in a cab, or rent a scooter and go to the beach (French side has the best beaches).

12-Metre Yacht Racing - America's Cup Challenge

Probably the best tour available is the America's Cup Challenge. I did this sailing adventure last year and had a fantastic time. Word of caution-- if you are prone to seasickness, be sure to take something before you go out. This group has rescued retired America's Cup Yacht contenders and allows you to sail them, under the guidance of their very qualified crew. You get to sail the yacht while match racing against another contender on a actual America's Cup race course setting.

Mountain Biking

This year I opted for the mountain biking tour which met in Phillipsburg, but actually rode on the French side just outside of Marigot in St. Martin. The ride was hot, sunny and fun. We rode for about an hour and a half, then ended up on a nice beach for some drinks. On the bus ride there, we got a nice introduction to the island from our tour director, Benedict. We had two tour guides for the actual biking portion, Phillip and Natalie. Phillip is the proprietor of the bike/skate shop called "Frog Legs" in Marigot. The bikes were in fair shape, and a great time was had by all. Again, since this is a very dry and hot island, it's important to keep your body full of liquids, especially when doing strenuous exercise.
