Friday in Aspen

After a late night at Eric's dancing and having a few martini's, our first full day of Aspen (there were three of us on this trip), started with breakfast and then on to a day of exploring. Top of the list was to ride the cablecar to the top of Aspen Mountain.

Breakfast at Poppycocks

Poppycocks

Everybody seemed to enjoy their breakfast at the diner. It was recommended by the staff at The Gant, and definitely worth visiting.

Aspen Mountain Cablecar

Lift Pass

The lift pass is $25 per day (for that Friday a weekday) per person. You get a discount if you use your Aspen/Snowmass discount card. It's worth the view at the top and the ride up and down the mountain.

The gondola (cablecar) station in Aspen.

Cablecar station at the top.

When we returned from the mountain, we bought some food at the local market, then went exploring the town.

There are various bronze statues around town of everything from wildlife to people.

For dinner we went to Matsuhisa, the best sushi place I've every eaten at.

For a late afternoon snack and lunch, we had pizza at Mezzaluna.

Ajax Tavern

Ajax

The sundeck overlooks the Silver Queen Gondola station at the base of Aspen mountain. It has great appetizers and a fun place to drink and eat while being outdoors.

Dinner

Matsuhisa

During our appetizer and happy hour at Ajax Tavern, we met two of the locals, Marie and Pablo who suggested we go to Matsuhisa for dinner. We joined them there for the most amazing sushi and Kobe that I've ever had (thanks Pablo and Marie !).

Kobe Beef. The most succulent, tender beef I've ever had. Try the Saketini if you want a different martini.

Scallops. Amazing.

More fantastic food at Matsuhisa.

Some sample prices at Matsuhisa.

End of Day - Friday in Aspen

It was a good first full day in Aspen. I always love the cablecars and the views from the top of the mountain. Aspen is a wonderful (but expensive) place. The food and selection of restaurants is incredible. By the end of the trip, I have decided that two of the restaurants there (Cache Cache and Matsuhisa) are two of the best I've ever dined at. After dinner at Matsuhisa, Sarah and I went to Eric's for a after-dinner cigar and drink. While the village is not that big, we used The Gant shuttle service alot. It's free and very convenient, but only runs until 11pm. Getting a late night taxi is about $5-7 to most places within the village.
